New Exams: CCNA 640-801,
INTRO 640-821 and ICND 640-811 On 24 June, 2003, Cisco Systems announced a number of enhancements
to their Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) exam program.
Firstly, the new CCNA 640-801 exam replaces the previous CCNA
640-607 exam. CCNA 640-801 simplifies the exam format (but not
necessarily the content) into four main areas including (1) Planning
and Design, (2) Implementation and Operations, (3) Troubleshooting
and (4) Technology. Note, however, that the CCNA 640-607 exam
is still current with the last date for registration being 30
September, 2003. The new CCNA 640-801 exam went live on 30 June
2003.
In addition to the new CCNA 640-801 exam, there is a new two-exam
route to achieving CCNA certification. This new two-exam route
includes the INTRO 640-821 and the ICND 640-811. INTRO (Introduction
to Cisco Networking Technologies) 640-821 covers the more basic
and more generic content while the ICND (Interconnecting Cisco
Network Devices) 640-811 covers the higher level and the more
Cisco specific aspects. Together, the content of INTRO 640-821
and ICND 640-811 exams equate to the content of the single exam
CCNA 640-801.
For existing CCNA certified people, the new ICND 640-811 exam
now qualifies for recertification.
Note that the INTRO exam is currently in beta form as INTRO
641-821. This beta status should soon be replaced with live status
and thus the exam INTRO 640-821.
Last dates for CCNA 640-607
The
last date to register for the CCNA 640-607 is 30th September
2003 (reference: click
here). We have been advised by Prometric (link)
that the last date for taking the exam itself is 11th November
2003.
Please note that some students of the Cisco Networking Academy
have until 31st March 2004 to take the exam.
